Every morning we have reading workshop. When we have reading workshop, we can have a snack because our lunch is so far away. Here are some of the things we do during reading workshop time. We are working on doing our personal best every single day!
We can read to someone with a flashlight in the cubbies. Mason and Torin did a great job of not playing with the flashlight!
We also listen to reading. We go to the website www.bookflix.com - it's really cool because you can watch videos and read books at the same time. Kane and Josiah did a great job!
We also take time to read to ourselves. Our book tubs are made out of popcorn tubs because our room is Hollywood this year. Conor really liked the book he was reading.
Another thing we do is word work. We get new words every week. On Friday we take a word work test. Kane is working on his word sort.
The last thing we do is meet with Mrs. Livingston with our reading group.

Hi its Libby Brielle Larissa Madison from Halswell School. We were wondering if you read books together in reading groups with your teacher? We have 4 reading groups in our class. We saw you need to have a snack in class? Do you not have morning tea? We have morning tea from 10.30-10.50 and then lunch from 12.30-1.30. We have 27 kids in our class!
ReplyDeleteWe read lots of books in our reading groups. We don't have morning tea in the United States and our school starts at 7:30 AM and we don't have lunch until 12:20 - so that's why we get to bring snack. We only have 16 kids in our class.
DeleteReading workshop sounds a great idea. Its a bit like our Guided Reading sessions. Does Mrs Livingston work with a different group each day? Mr Cobb's class (Badger Class), Barcombe.
ReplyDeleteReading is really important in our school and we just love it. We have 2 reading clubs, one run by Mrs Crowther for children aged 7-9 and another for older children aged 9-11. We also go out in groups with Mrs Crowther to read in a guided reading session. Every Wednesday we get to visit our school library to choose a book to take home. In class we have a recommended reading wall were we can write the titles of the books we are reading and our friends come and ask us about them and if they would recommend them to us or not. Do you have your own school library?
ReplyDeleteWe have 4 guided reading groups. We have a school library and a library in our classroom - it's like a separate room. All the kids in our class are 7 or 8 years old.
